126 Entry RAF Halton Apprentices
Although It was over 43 years ago when we went our separate ways on posting from Halton, many of us are in touch. We have a common bond through the shared experience of being a member of 126 Entry. Memories come flooding back whenever we meet, chat on the phone, post on social media or join-in an Entry Zoom meeting.
Have you ever wondered what became of someone you have lost contact with? Through our Entry Group you can find out!
We have a thriving Facebook group page, many attend the RAFHAA Triennial reunions and dozens the Entry reunions, some regularly meet up for a beer with those in their locality and others have met up whilst travelling around the UK and abroad. We have also held Zoom meetings.
REUNIONS
2022. The RAF Halton Apprentices' Association next (and probably final) reunion is next year on Saturday 6th August 2022 (this is a changed date from the original date of 20th August). Many of our 126 Entry members have already said that they will be attending and have booked to stay at the Red Lion in Wendover. If you are thinking of attending I suggest you book ASAP as rooms are likely to be taken quickly.
You must be a member of the RAF Halton Apprentice Association to attend their reunion. It is called the 2022 Centenary Reunion. It is likely to be their last one because RAF Halton is scheduled for closure in 2025. You can apply to join the association (if you are not already a member) and get tickets for the reunion through their website home page http://www.oldhaltonians.co.uk/. Each member can bring a guest.
In the past our Entry has been one of those with the most members at the reunion. Traditionally we base ourselves at the Red Lion and start the festivities off in the pub bar on the Friday evening, attend the reunion on Saturday and look up old haunts before winding-down in the pub bar on the Saturday night with hungover farewells after breakfast on Sunday morning. Some members just attend the reunion itself. Make a note in your diary! Apprentices' Association next (and probably final) reunion is next year on Saturday 20 August 2022. Some of our 126 Entry members have already said that they will be attending and have booked to stay at the Red Lion in Wendover. If you are thinking of attending I suggest you book ASAP as rooms are likely to be taken quickly.
In the future. Our reunion organisation team is keen to organise the next reunion. For the moment we are going to wait and see how the COVID emergency plays out. Once it is over and international travel is back to normality, we will begin to plan the next full 126 reunion. We are considering a number of reunion options. One option is we could hold a reunion in Wendover – although it is unlikely that we will be given the right to wander around Halton camp by the RAF. Another option is to hold the reunion somewhere else (rather like we did for the last one centred on Cosford in 2018). Suggestions so far have included Old Warden Airfield, Bedfordshire on a flying day, the Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial at RAF Elvington near York and London, perhaps taking in the RAF Museum at Hendon and strolling along our route lining positions from Horseguards. If you have any suggestions on a location please let me know and we will consider it.
If you want to chat about anything to do with reunions please email or call Steve Harris. If you want to discuss anything publically then why not post something in our Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/164573380403939.
